Web Content + Easy Management = Plone 3.0
Looking for an enterprise-level Web CMS for a budget price? Don't mind one that's written in Google's favorite programming language? How about one that's used by NASA, Amnesty International, the United Nations, Nokia, Novell, Discover Magazine, USDA Forest Service, the government of Brazil, and hundreds of others?
So here's the deal - Plone 3.0 was just released and it's a fantastic update to this extremely capable Web CMS.
Here's some of my favorite new features:
- Protects you from breaking links by fixing them when you move pages. If you try to delete something that still has links to it, it will show you a warning.
- Gives you heavy-duty UNDO - not only can you undo changes as you're writing, but it keeps a complete history of every change you make to every page. Want to see how a page changed between last week and last month? No problem. Want to go back to how it was last year? No problem.
- Searches inside Word and PDF documents, in addition to all the Web content you create.
Get the entire list straight from the horse's mouth.
It's free. Yep, it's open source. There's a huge community around it. Books, consultants, conferences, training, you name it. Prefer to stick with the online support only? No problem - check out the online documentation, support forums, and 24/7 live chat (yes, even on Christmas eve).
There's installers for Windows, Mac, and Linux. You won't need to mess with Apache, PHP, MySQL, ftp, etc. Even my Dad could have it running in a few minutes.
Take it for a spin, but watch out cause you might end up feeling disappointed with your current CMS.
