Ning Back from the Dead
The social network called Ning was pronounced dead in 2006. Here's the obituary.
100,000 online groups later and they're back to life. Here's the recant.
My own experience mirrors this rollercoaster ride. Last year, I evaluated Ning for my own online community, DukeCityFix.com. Ack. Ick. Hem. Haw. Somehow it didn't seem quite right.
A couple weeks ago, I took another look.
Vibrant, rich, customization galore, and a pricing model similar to Wordpress that is flexible by feature. In the past 2 weeks, I've created 2 new social networks on Ning and have received plenty of feedback from basic web users that it's easy to use and fun to engage.
- Bioneers Community Network on Ning
- Duke City Fix on Ning (not yet launched officially)
Both of these are pretty basic but as AdGabber and CareGiverKits show, there's a lot of that can be accomplished on Ning.
I'm in.
